MCV MS/JH Western Style Welcome Back Lu“Wow”!

On August 20, 2010, Mill Creek Valley Middle School and Junior High held the third annual Welcome Back LuWOW for all students in grades 5-8 who attend school in Paxico.   Due to muggy, unpredictable weather conditions, the event was held in the junior high commons and gym. Upon arrival each student was presented with a colored lei, which would later represent their team for our games and activities.   A cookout supper complete with grilled hotdogs, chips and dessert was first on the agenda.   After devouring close to 200 hotdogs, students enjoyed original “western style” games. The western style games included “cow pie” toss, cowboy “get up” race, stick horse relay and lasso rally. Competition was fierce and fun with everyone taking part.   After the games, while team points were being tallied, students participated in Cotton Eye Joe limbo.  This year’s limbo winner was 7th grader Adrian Welch. With the winning results in, the white team was able to pull off the team victory and the pink team came in a close second.  The evening was a huge success with 115 students, 12 staff members, and two spouses in attendance.  A special thanks to businesses whose donations made the event possible:  Stockgrower’s State Bank, First National Bank of Alma, Bluestem Electric Cooperative and Wamego City Hospital.   Parent Tina Kilian also provided delicious homemade cookies and brownies for dessert.  Events like this that create a positive school climate are made a reality with the support of students, staff, parents and the community.
